Modernist Graphic Design
Bauhaus revolutionized design when it was founded in 1919. The use of clean, crisp and sharp geometric style they introduced is still around today and can be seen all over the place. Bauhaus quickly became the most influential entity in Graphic Design with its use of offset angles and type in the frequently used colours of black, white and red.
This poster was just as ground breaking in terms of design than the Bauhaus. Its cross between block shapes of colour and lightweight typefaces work perfectly along with the then common offset angles.

Gone: Alex Steinweiss
Alex Steinweiss is credited with the invention of the album cover as we know it today. Albums were originally collections of 78rpm record sleeves bound between card covers (33rpm albums were first produced in 1948). They looked very similar to photo albums – hence the name – and consisted of a plain surface on which was printed the names of the composer, performer and label. In 1939 Steinweiss proposed to his employer, Columbia Records, that sales could be increased by making the packaging more attractive through more colourful, specially designed illustrations. The company agreed and in a career spanning over 30 years he designed more than 870 covers.

Onwards and upwards
For me it clearly meant, I didn’t like the fact that MY product, was never actually THE product. The things I sold, didn’t have part of me in them and for whatever crazy reason, it left me wanting. (#)
Skeuomorph
A design feature copied from a similar artifact in another material, even when not functionally necessary. For example, rivets on jeans, copper color on pennies, the shutter sound on a digital camera, and the pointless handle below.
